Chapter One: The Foundation (30+ Years)

It started in my mother's kitchen. While most families were reaching for processed convenience, our table was built on fresh, whole, home-cooked food — real ingredients, prepared with intention. We still ate meat then, but the mental foundation was being laid: that what you put in your body matters, that food is not neutral, and that the body responds to how you treat it.

Alongside that early nutritional grounding, I was drawn to the edges of what was considered acceptable health knowledge. I explored self-healing modalities — therapeutic touch, massage, and bodywork — long before wellness was a mainstream conversation. I brewed herbal tinctures, steeped medicinal teas, and experimented with natural healing tools that the dominant culture dismissed or ignored. I was developing a fluency in the body's own language — one that no institution taught me.

I questioned the food pyramid. I questioned pharmaceutical-first medicine. I questioned the nutrition advice handed down from regulatory bodies funded by the very industries profiting from our illness. That questioning wasn't rebellion — it was discernment. And it set the trajectory for everything that followed.

"There was a moment — quiet, unexpected — when I placed my hands on someone I loved who was suffering, and something moved through me that I had no name for yet. She was healed. I stood there afterward, shaken and certain at the same time. I understood then that the body holds capacities for healing that our culture has barely begun to map."

That spontaneous experience of energy moving through the hands as medicine wasn't something I sought — it arrived. And it confirmed what three decades of study and living had been quietly building toward: that healing is not just physical. It is energetic, spiritual, and deeply intelligent. The body knows how to restore itself when the right conditions are present. My life's work became learning — and now teaching — what those conditions are.

The most concentrated, transformative phase of my health journey began when I went fully plant-based — and kept going deeper. Nearly a decade of committed vegan living, raw food practice, juice fasting, and dry fasting has produced results and insights that no amount of reading could replicate. I experienced firsthand what happens when the body is given only living, enzymatically active food — how inflammation recedes, how mental clarity sharpens, how the body's self-regulatory intelligence returns when you stop overriding it with processed inputs.
